The petition requests that the State Water Control Board designate an approximately one mile segment of the Dan River in Virginia downriver of Danville near the VA/NC state line as a public water supply which would result in the application of Virginia public water supply water quality standards to that segment of the river.

The Department of Environmental Quality will public notice receipt of the petition and provide for a 21-day public comment period. Upon close of the public comment period, the Department will review any comments received and then present the petition and the results of the public comment period to the Board at a future meeting for their consideration.
