Proposing that PCSAS be recognized as an additional accrediting body of doctoral progams in psychology in regulation 18VAC125-20-54.

In accordance with Virginia law, the petition has been filed with the Register of Regulations for publication on June 25, 2018 with a request for comment to be received until July 24, 2018.  The petition will also be posted for comment on the Virginia Regulatory Townhall at www.townhall.virginia.gov.

At the next meeting after the comment period, which is scheduled for October 30, 2018, the Board will consider the petition and any comment received to decide whether or not to initiate the rule-making process.

The Board considered the petition relating to acceptance of accreditation by the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) for licensure in clinical psychology, as well as comment received from interested parties and additional information from the petitioner on PCSAS and from the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB).

The Board decided at its meeting on October 30, 2018 not to initiate rulemaking at this time.  There will be further review and discussion in the context of proposed changes to the educational requirements for clinical psychologists as a part of the overall review of regulations. The Board will continue to have discussion and gather information in the coming months.
